How To Shift Your Day Job Home
by Alexandra Martin
Though a bigger percentage of the human population would love to work from home, most often than not people
dismiss it immediately and do not make it a reality. Some people find it very difficult to embrace change. Other
people could not see the bigger picture and find it difficult to visualize earning money from working at home that
can be comparable with what they earn when they were still employed. Check if it is possible for you to move your
day job at home.
People who have consultative, creative or administrative kind of jobs can certainly do their work at home. Those
who have jobs that just need computers and phones can also shift to working at home. It is a given that working at
home is far more comfortable in the office so for those people who have jobs that fit the criteria, better think it
through and prepare to work at home. All you need to do is get the necessary things, equipments and programs
installed in your home and all is set.
Leave your hesitations behind when you are serious about working from home since this is easier than you really
think. The first thing that you need to do is to ask permission from your boss if it would be possible to do your
work from home. You should be prepared with your list of benefits on why it is so much better to work from your
home. Only resign from work when your boss is not open to the idea after giving him the necessary rebuttals to win
your case. Your boss might surprise you and support you fully with your suggestion. You will never know unless you
have the guts to ask.
A direct approach usually works for most employers. But do not forget to do your homework first before
approaching the big boss. You should be able to cover all bases. So leave no stones unturned when you are selling
your idea of working from home to your current employer. You need to mention anything that will help the company
save money and anything else that they will gain when you will be allowed to work from your home office.
If your existing employer seems uninterested in your proposal to work from home, think about other potential
employers. If you are not tied into a contract, consider setting up as a sole trader, having some business cards
printed and handing out your cards to people who might become your future clients. You could sell your service by
offering to pick up any "overflow" work they have that their existing staff cannot handle - that saves companies
hiring temporary workers. If you were unable to get your employer's buy-in, do not despair. There probably are
The clients you have will most certainly return if they are contented with your services.Working extra hours
will be a need if you still have your current job but if you feel that you can make do with what you are earning
from working at home, you can resign properly. Who knows, your boss might find you a bog loss to the company and
will then accept your arrangement of working from home.
